The mountains keep calling

For more than a decade I have travelled the Himalaya, from the green valleys of Himachal to the vast, wind-carved landscapes of Ladakh. However often I go, something always draws me back.

Perhaps it is the mountains themselves. Perhaps it is the roads that vanish into cloud, or a silence so complete that the noise of ordinary life simply falls away.

Or perhaps it is the people.

I still carry the warmth of families who welcomed me in, of long conversations over cups of tea, of a hospitality that makes a stranger feel at home without a single question asked.

Over the years these places stopped being destinations on a map. They became familiar; something very close to home.

I cannot fully explain why I keep returning. The nearest I can come is this: somewhere in those mountains, I belong. And every time I leave, a part of me knows I will be back.
